Privacy Policy
What Campus Life collects about visitors, which services receive it, the cookies and browser storage it uses, how to opt out, and your rights.
Last updated 30 September 2026.
The short version#
Campus Life has no accounts, comments or sign-up forms, and it shows no advertising. It does count visits using two analytics services, Google Analytics and Statcounter. They receive your IP address and details of each page you view, Google Analytics sets two cookies, and Statcounter stores a few items in your browser. Pages also load their fonts from Google. The search box and the calculators run in your browser, and what you type into them is not sent to us.
This page lists exactly what is used and how to switch it off.
What happens when you visit#
Like every website, ours is delivered by a web host. When your browser asks for a page, the host receives your IP address, the page you asked for, and details of your browser and device. Hosting providers commonly keep this in server logs for security and troubleshooting.
Analytics#
We use analytics to see, in aggregate, which articles and tools are read, where visitors come from, and on what kind of device, so we know what to write and what to fix. Two services run on every page. They start when the page loads.
Google Analytics#
Google Analytics (loaded from googletagmanager.com and google-analytics.com) receives your IP address, the address and title of the page, the page you came from, your screen size, language, browser and device details, and a random identifier stored in a cookie so it can tell a returning browser from a new one. Google processes this under Google's privacy policy.
Statcounter#
Statcounter (loaded from statcounter.com) runs as an invisible counter. It receives similar information: your IP address, the page and its title, where you came from, your screen resolution, and browser and device details. Statcounter describes what it keeps in its own privacy policy.
Neither service is told what you type into the search box or the calculators: they record that a page was visited, not what you entered.
How to stop it#
- Install Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on to stop Google Analytics.
- Block
googletagmanager.com,google-analytics.comandstatcounter.comin your browser settings or with a content blocker. The site works the same without them. - Clear your cookies and site data to remove the items listed below.
Cookies and browser storage#
These are the only cookies and stored items the site causes, and all of them come from the two services above:
| Name | Where | Set by | What it is for |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Cookie | Google Analytics | A random identifier that recognises a returning browser |
_ga_TWGJLJFZ8Y | Cookie | Google Analytics | Keeps track of your visit (session) for our Analytics property |
sc_medium_source, statcounter.com/localstorage/ | Local storage | Statcounter | Used by Statcounter to measure visits and where they come from |
statcounter_config, statcounter_session | Session storage | Statcounter | Used by Statcounter during one visit; cleared when you close the tab |
Google says its cookies last up to two years by default. Apart from these, the site's own code sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser.
Fonts from Google#
Pages load their typefaces from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com). That means Google receives your IP address and browser details when a page loads, under Google's privacy policy. If you would rather avoid that, block those two addresses in your browser or an extension. The pages still work and fall back to your device's own fonts.
Everything else, including every image, is served from campuslife.uk itself.
Search and calculators#
The search box downloads a small index of article titles and descriptions once, then filters it in your browser. Your queries are never sent anywhere.
The student loan, monthly expense, bill split and GPA calculators work out their results in your browser. The figures and names you enter are not sent to us, not saved, and disappear when you reload or leave the page.
The UCAT university selector downloads one data file of published cut-off scores from this site, then compares your score with it in your browser. The site itself does not send your score anywhere.
Links and sharing#
Articles link to other websites, and the share buttons and social icons are ordinary links. Nothing is sent to Facebook, X, WhatsApp, LinkedIn, Pinterest or any other site until you click one, and after that their own privacy policies apply. Links to other sites open in a new tab and ask your browser not to tell the destination which page you came from.
Email and the RSS feed#
There is no newsletter sign-up and we collect no email addresses through the site. You can follow new articles through the RSS feed, which is fetched like any other page.
If you email contact@campuslife.uk, we receive your address and whatever you write. We use it to reply and, if you have reported a mistake, to correct the article. We do not add you to a mailing list or pass your details on, and we keep the message only as long as we need it to deal with what you wrote. Please do not send sensitive personal details by ordinary email.
Your rights#
Under UK data protection law you can ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, and object to how we use it, including to the analytics described above. Beyond emails you have sent us, what we hold is the visit statistics in our Google Analytics and Statcounter accounts, which are not tied to your name. Write to contact@campuslife.uk and we will deal with your request. If you are unhappy with the answer, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes to this page#
If the site starts showing advertising, running a newsletter or comments, or using anything else that handles personal information, this page will be updated to say so.
General information, not advice#
Campus Life publishes general information for students. It is not personal, financial, legal or medical advice, and figures can go out of date. See About for more.
