GPA Calculator
Work out your GPA on a 4.0 scale from your grades and credits, for a single term or your whole record.
How it works#
Each grade has a value on the 4.0 scale, from 4.0 for an A down to 0 for an F. Your GPA is the average of those values, weighted by credits, so a 30-credit course moves it twice as far as a 15-credit one. Add up grade points times credits for every course, then divide by the total credits.
The scale used is the common one: A and A+ are 4.0, A- is 3.7, B+ is 3.3, B is 3.0, and so on down in steps of 0.3 or 0.4 to a D- at 0.7. Some universities give an A+ more than 4.0 or do not use plus and minus grades, so check your own institution's scale if the figure matters.
To include earlier terms, enter your GPA and total credits so far under the optional heading and the calculator shows your cumulative GPA as well.
If you are studying in the UK#
UK degrees are classified by a percentage average (first, 2:1, 2:2, third), not by GPA, and universities do not report a GPA for you. This calculator is for when a course, scholarship or employer asks for one, or for a US-style programme. If you are applying abroad, the institution you are applying to decides how a UK degree converts, so ask what they accept rather than relying on a generic table. Our guide to master's funding in the UK covers the wider picture if you are weighing a postgraduate course.
